Welcome to Coleman's Classroom, an inclusive English endeavor to engage, educate, and empower everyone.
As a writing and language instructor in Southern California, I am dedicated to the importance of having excellence in the English language usage for writing, speaking, listening, and reading as well as the necessary study skills required for collegiate success. Empowering students to be the masters of their own writing is one of the best aspects of my job!
Moreover, as an ESL instructor, I am providing so much more than language; I am also facilitating culture and connections as I strive to help my students, all students, my people, all people, succeed in life.
Recently, I have decided that the most effective way to change my little piece of the world was to become an educational vlogger. It's a new path for me, an exciting yet scary proposition to be sure. Nonetheless, I feel that all I have endured and overcome has lead me to this point in life, and I am ready to take on the challenge with all its accompanying pitfalls!

One of my favorite writers is Ralph Waldo Emerson.
I find myself quoting bits and pieces from him quite often in my motivational videos. I strive to apply his definition of success to my educational endeavors.
To laugh often and much...
To win the respect of intelligent people...
To appreciate beauty...
To find the best in others...
To leave the world a bit better...
To know even one life has breathed a easier because you lived ...
That is to have succeeded.
In the classroom, one way that I can help student be successful is through writing improvement.
My first book in the GramEd Series, Editing Academic Texts: Advanced Verb Form:, is now available at Amazon.com.
Under the Tree, a different kind of learning takes place...
In Summer 2017, I wanted to create a space to communicate with my students outside of class, an inclusive space to chat, to ask questions, to communicate concerns, a place just to be... and so began Under the Tree . I certainly didn't expect that this small gathering under a tree would become such a unifying aspect of my teaching ... and yet it has. It has actually lead to my online teaching name, Professor Undertree. Who could have ever expected that?
So every week at IVC on Thursdays from 1-2:30 through April 2018, you'll find me under the tree, available for conversation and community.
under the tree.
Each of us has to find his or her own path in the world.
I want to make a difference in the world that I live in. I don’t want to only occupy space; I want to make my world a better place.
My success comes from helping those around me succeed. And for now, and the foreseeable future, you can find me in the classroom, under the tree, and now, online as I venture into the new world of digital teaching.
