My name is Catherine Coleman, Mrs. C to my students. As an educator, I am driven by Martin Luther King Jr.’s words that “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” Currently in America, there is a rise in injustice as the very definitions and values of this nation are under attack. Despite this contentious environment, I wholeheartedly agree with Marion Wright Edelman’s inspiring statement that “you really can change the world if you care enough.” I have also been motivated by Mother Teresa's command: “Don’t wait for leaders; do it alone, person to person.” Thus, this website, an extension of my English classroom where I continually strive to represent a tolerant and accepting America while providing excellent English educational resources, is my personal effort to change the world, one person, one word, one idiom, and one idea at a time.
Here you will find a plethora of free educational resources including my weekly blog with timely cultural and language insight, academic advice, and other educational topics in addition to my own classroom lessons in grammar, writing, reading, language, college success as well as others’ online educational videos. All of these resources may be used for students' self-study and for instructors' class-lessons. All the slide shares in the free section have non-commercial share alike international licenses. Thus, if you want to share any of these resources to help others become more proficient in English, please do.
Moreover, I am in the process of fulfilling one of the great American dreams-- to have one’s own business. Coleman’s Classroom wiil soon be launching with ESL for-purchase publications and some fee-based lessons.
Even though mastering English often seems like an insurmountable task, change happens little by little. With a good attitude, unceasing effort, and sufficient time, the favorable result will be worth it!
